… Accept The INVITATION. Shout to the silver of the full moon ‘Yes!’
… Accept The INVITATION “shout to the silver of the full moon ‘Yes!”
Life is hard. And life is wonderful. “The Invitation” by Oriah Mountain Dreamer is dedicated to a life-changing journey I embarked upon last week. My journey, and this poem are about finding what we need – the inspiration, the intimacy, the courage and the commitment to live fully, every day.
It teaches the premise that you alone are EVERYTHING, that you must dare to risk for what you love, to live happily and place emphasis on your own Joy. I am learning every day that we must move toward towards this spiritual goal – we have to let go of our “ego,” that part of ourselves that is reliant on manifestations of the mind. To be in our “ego,” and live there is to be unaware, unconscious. When we love without ego, we awaken. I feel as if I have truly had an awakening – as Leo Tolstoy says : “We are asleep until we fall in Love”.
When we step outside the ‘glass bottles of our own ego’ and purely love, our souls flourish and exist within the moment. We then become an observer of our egos; we begin to go beyond it. It is the beginning of that path toward consciousness and awareness, and ultimately happiness.
INVITATION by Oriah Mountain Dreamer, Native American Elder
It doesn’t interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart’s longing.
It doesn’t interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn’t interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the centre of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life’s betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it, or fade it, or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own; if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn’t interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul. If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day. And if you can source your own life from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, ‘Yes.’
It doesn’t interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children.
It doesn’t interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the centre of the fire with me and not shrink back.
It doesn’t interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.
– Oriah Mountain Dreamer
I flew across the Atlantic Ocean last week, and my life changed as I drowned in a sea of egoLESS love. I experienced the thrill of being present, of sharing, of being vulnerable and daring to follow my bliss. I let the ecstasy fill me to the tips of my fingers and toes without cautioning myself to be careful, be realistic, or remember the limitations of being human. The universe supported me, it whispered to me and left me with thousands of messages, telling me I was on the right spiritual path to alignment and fulfillment. As a dear friend reminded me today- all I had to do was to tell my ego to ‘get out of the way’ and LET it happen and be fearless in following your happiness.
One of these gifts was delivered to me as I was stood on the corner of West 68th Street, marveled at how spontaneous and poignant our existence on this earth can be, I found my favorite Fleetwood Mac Album ‘Mirage’ on Vinyl (after hearing Stevie Nicks everywhere I seemed to go in the city) then stumbled across a copy of the Original London Cast Recording of ‘Robert and Elizabeth’. A sign I was going with the flow and being steered in the right direction, I was and am where I am meant to be – the past reaching out its hands and encouraging to step forward into the future. Life is so mysterious, and full of meaningful messages for those who have their hearts, minds and eyes open… That record was delivered into the hand of another wonderful soul I had the pleasure of meeting at the Palladium Theatre today – a connection the universe aligned for a reason. After making my discovery back in New York I was looking out onto a beautiful day in Central Park and remembering the boy I was at drama school in London 7years ago and the man I am now at 25, and just how grateful I was to be there, and how grateful I am to be here, in this perfect moment – Sharing my life and dreaming with the people I love.
How many of us dare to dream? last week as I left the warm, crisp glow of my new home in Munster, Fulham. En route to my beloved New York, where I all of my dreams lie trembling and flashing throughout the streets and avenues, the endless adventures, love, excitement and life pivoting lessonsalways await me there – My heart was pounding the moment I boarded the District line. I journeyed to Heathrow, again into the unknown – a spiritual experience awaited me on this journey that would change my perception on love forever. Rattling along the nostalgic trail of the Piccadilly line my mind wistfully skipped along a path littered and charged with the electric, and evocative surges of bitter sweet, life shaping memories – joy, adventure and love. Vibrations new and old all pushed me forward to wonderful new experiences in one of my most favorite places in the world. We have to listen to the ‘gypsy that remains’, the child that guides you, that let’s you explore – free of those human fears and the ‘tyranny of the majority’ – do not be afraid ‘I have no fear only love’ as Stevie Nicks sang in my ears, ever nearing Heathrow’s Terminal 3. Wearing my Granddad’s sheepskin coat as the brilliant, golden sun bathed me in a halo of light that was streaming through the passing trees, mansions, houses, churches and rooftops of London. The whole world at my feet, flying by.
I arrived in my long lost New York, immersed in the surging tide of that wonderful city, sharing my love and adventures with childlike wonder… Having no fear, only love – highlights the beauty, magic and wonder of youth, and how we can forget that as we grow up. Lightening strikes when we meet those people who reflect our true selves, and inspire us to follow our inner child towards happiness and adventure. We see their ‘bright eyes’, and reflected in them is our ‘Gypsy’ it lights up the darkness and inspires us to follow our dreams, and our hearts. We wish, we hope, we remember what we were, we remember our ability to love, create and learn – free from the constraints of adulthood, society, our ego, pride and vanity. All of which are toxic illusions that blind us from the beauty and essence of #truth.
All proof of why we are alive, to love, create and share. This is my dedication to my two friends, teachers and lovers in New York City. I know as long as I ‘invite’ these adventures, and say yes my life will always be filled with love, enlightenment and joy.
“…. And you’re back again only different that before… After the sky.” I arrived back last week on the other side, back to where I started at the bottom of the beanstalk home in Fulham after a what was only the beginning of a truly life changing journey. We are the creators of our own experiences – the endless possibility and adventure that presents fills my life with hope and joy. We are responsible for our happiness, and placing our emphasis on the importance of sharing and loving. As my dreams evolve I create, learn, grow, and love. I hope I never loose sight of that and the people who remind me to live an extraordinary existence, especially my boys. Thank you for the adventures.

Yes. Yes! YES.
